Set up your POS correctly

  • Confirm participation. Some holidays are mandatory for all retailers (e.g., Arkansas); others are opt-in at the local level (e.g., Alabama, Florida local tax).
  • Exempt the right items. Match the state’s eligible categories and per-item caps exactly; over-exempting costs you the tax.
  • Set the window. Program start and end timestamps to the state’s published dates; many run Friday–Sunday.
  • Test a transaction. Run a sample item in and out of the cap before the holiday opens.
